We had two fantastic GAA matches in the last week.
Firstly, our girls GAA side took on Our Lady of Victories from Ballymun.
Our girls were narrowly defeated in a hugely competitive game. A strong team performance was illuminated by the performances of Ella Banikole, Jodie Grove and Kasey Barrett Doyle.
Secondly, our boys GAA side took on local rivals St. Fergals.
In a game that ebbed and flowed we scored a late point to secure a well-earned draw. A battling team performance was led by Artiom Travkin in goal, Leon McLaren and Ben O Hara in defence and Rhys Boyd and Jayden Paget up front.
St Malachys had a Whole School Evaluation – Management, Leadership and Learning in September 2018. Details of the findings and recommendation from the Department of Education and Skills can be found in the attached document.
We had great fun today creating electrical circuits. We are budding scientists in room

We were very busy in St Malachys this week for literacy week. Every class took 15 minutes every day to ” drop everything and read” ( D.E.A.R time) – including the teachers.
As well as this, two children from every class recited a poem or short story, as gaeilge or in English, over the intercom each day of literacy week.
We also had a junior and senior spelling bee competition, congratulations to Kyle Henderson from 4th class for winning the junior spelling bee and Alex Zgardan from 6th class for coming 1st place in the senior competition.
Each class took part in a handwriting competition, it was a very close competition as the standard of excellent handwriting in the school is very high. Congratulations to Michael Galka in 5th class for winning the senior competition and to Alan Nolan in 3rd class for winning the junior competition.
We were also honoured to welcome a local poet and grandfather to two of the pupils in the school, Liam Johnson to the school. He recited two of his poems and short story, as well as listening to some of room 12’s short stories. Liam and his grandchildren, Louise Shannon and Robert Sharkey recited Liam’s poem “Clickety Clack” over the intercom to the rest of the school.
Ms Mc Cormack and Ms Hamill’s 6th class made their confirmation 6th of April. The service was celebrated by our parish priest Fr Paddy.
A special thanks to Ms Mc Cormack, Ms Hamill, Yolande and Susan, Cissy, Sr Eileen, Ms O Malley, Ms Burke, the school choir and we cannot forget the hard work the children put into their confirmation preparation which made the day very special for everybody.

Ms Eustace’s 5th class were very lucky to be invited to a writing workshop called Fighting words. The class attended a workshop where they brainstormed a story together. They had a wonderful time coming up with the different characters for the story, as well the hilarious situations the characters found themselves in. They were presented with their own story book, along with fantastic illustrations from Rory the illustrator. When they returned to school, they finished their stories in class.
You can find their story on

We are thrilled to welcome Roisín, the yoga instructor to the school to teach the pupils yoga – as gaeilge! Roisin will be teaching yoga for six weeks. The children are really enjoying learning new yoga poses, from sun salutations to the cobra! We all particularly enjoy the meditation exercise with the singing bowl at the end of the class. Namaste!
The annual schools athletics took place this week in Morton Stadium, Santry. The Field Events were held on Monday and Track Event on Wednesday. The children had a superb day, there were smiles all round on their return to school. They represented the school, their parents, the community but most importantly themselves with impeccable behaviour and a positive mind set.
Congratulations to Cian Hanlon from 6th class, who won Gold for the under 14 high jump and Crystal Walsh, who won Gold for the under 11 high jump. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the events this week.
A special thanks to Ms Mc Grath, Ms Reape and Carol Murphy for their hard work and dedication in preparing the children for Santry this year.

As this school year comes to an end, sadly we say goodbye to Ms O’ Malley who has decided to retire. Ms O’ Malley has worked in the school for 39 years. She joined the school in September 1980 when Mr Mc Carthy was the Principal of the school. She became Deputy Principal of St Malachys under Mr Hamill and is now retiring with Mr Dolan as Principal.
Ms O’ Malley’s commitment to the school, the teachers and the community will be forever etched into the hearts of those who were lucky to have known her. Her love and care for the children was always at the fore front of everything she did. She will be greatly missed by the children, the parents and the staff. We wish Siobhán every happiness as she enters the next stage of her life.
