We had our final mile a day run today.  Our personal best time was recorded and we were presented with a certificate.  Everybody did an incredible job in improving their stamina and general fitness.  Artiom said that he came back to the class energized and ready for the day.

A special congratulations to the most athletic girls Crystal Walsh and Kasey Doyle, the most athletic boys Leon Mc Laren and Adam Barbour.  Our best improvers are Robert Sharkey, Anthony Redmond, Taylor Roche and Robyn Mitchell.

A Visit to the Botanic Gardens

June 2019

We went to the Botanic Gardens on the 17th of June.  We met our tour guide Antonia, where she brought us to the Viking House, she explained to us what life was like for the Vikings in Ireland.  We wandered around the hot house and saw the magnificent tropical plants.  We also got to the smell the curry leaves for the “curry” tree.  We each planted some Calendula seeds into our own compostable plant pots.  We hope to see these flower in our school courtyard in the autumn.

Coicís na Gaeilge

Bhí craic agus spraoí galore sa scoil i rith coicís na Gaeilge.  Bhí go leor rudaí ar súil sa scoil. Bhíomar ag imirt cluichí Gaeilge le Ms Burke agus ár múinteoir féin.  Chan muid ” Wake Me Up” le Aviici as Gaeilge and chum muid an dán ” An maith leat faisean?”  – lán de dramaíocht agus spraoí i gcomhair an tionól.  Chomh maith le sin, rinneamar and comórtas ” Spelling Bee” as gaeilge, bhuaigh Killian an cheád duais Dé Déardaoin agus bhuaigh Adam an chéad duais Dé hAoine.  Comhgairdeachais de na páistí go léir mar rinne siad iarracht an-mhaith Gaeilge a labhairt gach lá.

There was great craic and fun in the school during coicís na Gaeilge.  There was a lot of things happening in the school.  We played Irish games with Ms Burke and our own teachers.  We sang ” Wake Me Up” by Aviici, we recited a poem, which was full or fun and drama.  As well as that we had a spelling bee competition.  Killian came first place on Thursday and Adam came first place on Friday.  Congratulations to all the children because they all tried to speak Irish every day.

Easy Treesie – Children plant trees

St Malachys were involved this week in planting trees in Tolka Valley Park. There are a million schoolchildren on the island of Ireland.  The goal of Easy Treesie is to plant a  million trees by 2023 to reach the “Plant-for-the-Planet” challenge.  We were only to happy to be the first school involved in this initiative.  St Malachys planted 1000 trees in our local park over the last two weeks!

Literacy week

Room 12 really enjoyed literacy week.  We learned a poem from a local poet, and a grandfather to two of the children in the class, Liam Johnson.  We were honoured to recite his poem and to listen to two of his poems and short story.

We were proud of Michael Galka for coming first in the handwriting competition.  The standard of handwriting was very high and there were many finalists chosen from room 12.
