Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2019

The other day teacher bought things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, PJ’s, toys, sweets and lots of other things. She brought them into school and we put together a boy shoe box and a girl shoe box. The next day teacher sent the shoe boxes off. I really hope that all the people who are struggling out there get to live life. We need to appreciate the things we get because there are people out there with nothing, some on the street with only maybe a tea or coffee a day. Be grateful! Happy Christmas to all! – by Millie
A few days ago our class did two Christmas shoe boxes for the children who’s parents cant afford toys or nice things. There was two boxes, one for the girl and one for the boy. Teacher went out and got the stuff and we packed them up. The girls did the girls box and the boys did the boys box. We put in a hairbrush, toothpaste and a tooth brush, a pair of PJ’s, jellies, a notebook, a pencil case and lots of other stuff. We all signed our names on the box and our teacher posted them away. – By Ali
We liked doing the shoe boxes because there are poor people and children out there who can’t afford things. We put in toothpaste, PJ’s and lots of other stuff. I feel great for doing it, it was fun and it was a great day. – By Tom
We made shoe boxes for the kids who are in need. We made them to make children around the world happier which kind of benefited us because we feel better about ourselves. It got us away from doing work which the class was happy about. We had great fun making the shoe boxes. – By Ivan
The children are going to be happy this Christmas. We gave them nice things. I feel great for doing it and I feel great for them too. – By Lee
Me and my class made Christmas shoe boxes. We put in clothes, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other things. We all put our names on the box. There were two boxes, one for the girl and one for the boy. It was a lot of fun. – By Aoife
I think it’s good to send things to poor countries because it helps other people to be healthy and happy and it gets them warm if they don’t have any warm clothes. – By Einoras

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and is trapping heat from the sun in the Earth’s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide has a big part to play in Climate Change, so we did a few experiments about carbon dioxide.
We mixed vinegar and baking soda to create a chemical reaction. The vinegar and baking soda fizz and hiss, and together create carbon dioxide.
When we mixed vinegar and baking soda in a bottle, and put a balloon on the top of the bottle, it inflated the balloon with carbon dioxide! Have a look at our experiment.

We also used carbon dioxide to put out a lit match, and to put out a candle. Carbon dioxide is used in fire extinguishers to put out fires as well. Below are YouTube videos of experiments similar to the ones we did.

We’ve been learning three amazing Science facts a day as part of Science week. 5th and 6th class have been reading three facts out over the intercom every day.

On Tuesday, we made anemometers. Anemometers measure the speed of wind. We worked in pairs to make the anemometers and then took them outside to measure the wind.
