Monday

We kicked off Active Schools week 2018 very well today. All classes got a taster session in Badminton. Many of the children had never played it before. It was a great success.

Some of the classes did individual activities throughout the day also such as running, skipping, small playground games.

Tuesday

Today, each class got a taster session in Ultimate Frisbee. This was a great team activity and the children really enjoyed it!

As well as this 6th class went running this morning with their teacher, 3rd class played rounders and the 5th classes played some playground games and football.

Wednesday

The 3rd and 4th classes had great fun doing Tug of War today. Even some of the teachers had a go!! 🙂

Thursday

Today was another great day in our Active Schools week. It was ‘Walk to School Thursday’ where the school gates were locked and the children were encouraged to walk to school.

The 5th classes participated in a Lazer Tag Run Final Event in Erin’s Isle. The children ran against St. Finian’s school. Everyone received a medal for taking part and we also took four trophies back to school after winning the four events!! The children really enjoyed it! 🙂

Later in the day we launched our Active School Walkway. Three special guests joined us for this important opening. We had the pleasure of welcoming Jessica Ziu who plays football for the Republic of Ireland U17’s and Alex Kavanagh who plays for Shelbourne football club (both are past pupils of St. Malachy’s). There was great excitement welcoming our third guest, Senior Dublin football player James McCarthy.

Friday

On Friday each class had a session of G.A.A training with a coach from Erin’s Isle G.A.A club. These sessions were great and the children had the chance to practise and even learn some new skills. Some children had never played G.A.A before. It was great fun and the children really enjoyed it! 🙂
